When I founded Pawraana, I didn’t just want to sell beautiful, hand-printed accessories. I wanted to create a bridge between our homes in the UK and the resilient street dogs of India. To understand why this mission is so close to my heart, I want you to meet a very special girl named Mishti.
A Three-Year Journey of Healing
For three years now, I have been Mishti’s "Virtual Parent." When I first met her (virtually!) through Kannan Animal Welfare (KAW), she was struggling with a serious, painful skin condition.
Since then, her journey hasn’t been easy—she has had to undergo surgeries to remove two different tumours.
As her sponsor, I contribute £35 every month. That might sound like the cost of a few coffees to us, but at the shelter, that money is a lifeline.
The Joy of the "Digital Tail Wag"
One of the most rewarding parts of being a virtual parent is the connection. Despite being thousands of miles away, I am part of Mishti's life.
There is nothing quite like opening an email to see a video of your "adopted kid" playing, tail wagging, and knowing that you are the reason she is comfortable, fed, and loved.
What is Virtual Adoption?
Many of the dogs at KAW, like Mishti, have chronic medical needs or histories of trauma that make traditional adoption more difficult.
