When people see Molly sprinting across the sand, ears flapping in the sea breeze, they see a "Beach Queen." They see a dog who is intuitive, fiercely loyal, and deeply protective. What they don’t see is the thousands of miles—and the massive leap of faith—it took to get her here.
What is an "Indie" Dog?
In India, the native street dogs are known as "Indies" or "Desis." These aren't "mutts" in the accidental sense; they are a centuries-old landrace, naturally evolved to be hardy, incredibly intelligent, and highly alert. They are survivors. But on the crowded streets of cities like Delhi, that survival is a daily struggle against hunger, traffic death, abuse, and illness.
Molly’s Journey: The Transition
In 2017, Molly left the care of Kannan Animal Welfare (KAW) to join me in the UK. I’ll be honest: the transition wasn't always easy.
Imagine being Molly. She had never lived inside four walls. She had never heard the hum of a refrigerator or the click of a heating system. In those early days, she was anxious and stressed, navigating a world that felt completely alien.
The Beauty of "Firsts"
But then, the magic started to happen. One of the greatest privileges of my life was watching Molly experience "firsts" that we often take for granted:
The first time she felt a plush, comfy bed instead of hard concrete.
The first time she curled up on a sofa, realizing she was safe enough to truly sleep.
The first time she sniffed a garden flower or felt the cool, damp texture of green grass under her paws.
And then, there was the beach. Seeing a dog who started her life in the dust of India discover the vastness of the ocean for the first time is something I will never forget. Today, the beach is her kingdom.
Why You Should "Adopt, Not Shop"
Molly is living proof of why we champion the "Adopt, Don’t Shop" movement at Pawraana.
Every year, millions of dogs wait in shelters or struggle on streets while the commercial breeding industry continues to grow. When you adopt—especially an "unpopular" breed like an Indie—you aren't just saving one life; you are making room for the shelter to save another.
When you adopt a rescue dog, you get more than a pet:
You get a soul who knows they were saved. The loyalty of a rescue dog is unmatched.
You break the cycle of cruelty. By choosing a rescue, you refuse to fund "puppy farms" and exploitative breeding.
You gain a unique companion. There is no other dog in the world exactly like Molly, and there is no other dog exactly like the one waiting for you at a shelter right now.
Our Mission at Pawraana
Molly is the "Creative Director" in spirit behind everything we do. She is the reason we use recycled cotton (to protect the planet she loves to run on) and the reason 10% of our sales go back to KAW.
We want more Indies to have their "Beach Queen" moment. We want more street dogs to know the feeling of a soft bed. Thank you for helping us make that happen, one purchase at a time.
